Breeding

Le Croc Breeding farm was started in the late 1980’s by its previous owners but due to financial constraints ended up in bankruptcy in 2002. In 2003, Mr. Stefan van As, a former Investment Banker, and wildlife enthusiast acquired Le Croc Breeding farm with the vision to transform the operation into a financially viable and sustainable entity.

At that time, Le Croc consisted of a young breeding stock and partially completed breeding and rearing facilities. Following an intensive study of the behavior and requirements of crocodiles, and after taking cognizance of the climatic environment which is suitable for the rearing of crocodiles, new generation climate controlled rearing facilities was established in 2005.

Since then, Stefan and his staff have embarked on various research projects to improve animal health, growth performance and ultimately -skin quality. Great care is given to animal nutrition, which includes the formulation of specific diets, sourcing of quality raw materials, and a processing plant to ensure constant, high quality and a well balanced diet for the crocodiles.   A dedicated and well trained team ensures that the system of quality control is adhered to at all times. A detailed reporting system ensures that all performance goals are achieved throughout the live cycle of each generation of crocodiles reared on the farm.

Today, Le Croc Breeding Farm is a modern and new generation breeding facility which produces top quality skins for Le Croc Tannery who transforms these skins into the finest finished leather used by international companies for the manufacture of exclusive luxury products and sold all over the world.
